Hospital expansion a step closer to reality

The expansion of the Logan Hospital to meet demand across the City of Logan, including Slacks Creek, is a step closer with the recent call for tenders.

At an estimated cost of $460 million, the works will involve two projects which incorporate the expansion of the entire facility as well as the upgrade of the maternity wing to include birthing pools, six more inpatient beds, a larger nursery for special care, and facilities for patient's partners to stay overnight.

Shannon Fentiman, Member for Waterford, said shortlisted companies had been issued with an ITO (Invitation to Offer) for both projects, a move that saw the process reach an exciting milestone. She added:

“This is one of Queensland’s largest ever hospital expansions and will ensure that locals receive the best care, close to home.”

She said the upgrade and expansion projects will add 206 treatment spaces and beds as well as many upgraded services throughout the entire hospital. The Logan Hospital works are expected to extend over five years and will also include the addition of a multi-level car park.

Detailed design, which often includes a graphic design of the proposed project, has begun with a number of upgrades to infrastructure also to be administered between now and when the main construction work is due to commence in 2021.

Meanwhile, work on upgrading the maternity wing is expected to kick off in September this year.
