Grants to help local arts projects become reality

Three substantial art projects will become a reality following the latest announcement of grants provided by the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF).

Jointly funded by the Queensland Government and Logan City Council, the RADF grants to local projects will benefit not only the successful applicants but also people throughout Logan City, including Slacks Creek.

Logan City Councillor Steve Swenson said since the programme was first instituted in 2001 there had been 38 grants rounds administered in the local area and each had, in turn, helped to generate significant employment within the arts sector and other artworks that followed.

He noted that in 2016, Logan Council had invested in excess of $55,000 in a total of eight arts projects.

Logan Art Gallery visitors will be able to view some of these works, which are included on Brochures advertising current exhibitions on show at the venue throughout January.

The latest grant recipients include noted local sculptor Radha Pedersen who will be developing skills in silver smithing to assist him in reproducing his works for inclusion in two key events later in the year.

Artist Chris Martin has also received a grant to be mentored by James Guppy, an established artist, in preparation for his creation of paintings for a current social issues themed exhibition.

The final recipient is Creative Collective Cultural Community Inc which will be enlisting Alvin Rostant for weekly tutoring classes of FIRST Services clients in readiness for the steel band festival PANZfest to be held in Cairns in September.
