Fun day out as residents step back in time to relive history

Logan residents will soon be transported back in time for the annual ‘The Time Before

Festival’.

The fun family event, previously known as Mayes in May, is held to celebrate the Logan area’s heritage, including early settlers such as the Slacks family, after which the suburb Slacks Creek, Queensland, was named.

The Time Before Festival is part of the popular

Queensland Heritage Festival, with most of the fun taking place at historic locations including the Kingston Butter Factory and Mayes Cottage. Both landmarks link back to the area’s early history.

Locals and guests are invited to enjoy a day full of family fun and activities. Included on the program are pig races, entertainment, pony rides, animal farm activities, cottage and museum tours, sheep shearing, vintage car displays, horse and carriage rides, wood chopping, whip crackers and face painting.

Organisers say the heritage event will offer something for all ages and would be an ideal opportunity to also experience what it was like to be an early settler.

Those attending will be able to indulge in a range of food and beverages and, for those who like a bargain, the event hosts market stalls.

Both venues are located in Slacks Creek’s neighbouring suburb of Kingston, and a free shuttle bus will carry passengers between the two historic landmarks.

Flyer printing has been an effective way to advise locals of the free event, which is to be held on 4th May.
