Forum to help Indigenous business communities thrive

Creating and running a small business has its challenges, but business owners in the Slacks Creek area have taken steps to connect with others in similar positions at the Logan, Black Coffee event this September.

The Black Coffee Theory of Change was set up as a means of exploring the particular difficulties that Indigenous businesses may experience, and then helping to provide a network where the owners could come together to exchange stories and solutions. This also has the positive knock-on effect of preserving cultural traditions and heritage so that, as Reconciliation Australia 2022 states:
“in a just, equitable and reconciled Australia, the distinctive and collective rights and cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are universally recognised and respected.”

The Black Coffee movement enables networking opportunities within the community, and allows Indigenous and non-Indigenous businesses to share best practice and procurement opportunities. It also serves to provide support with digital technologies in order to link owners. Promotional material to support small businesses can often be provided by local Print shops.

Logan, Black Coffee takes place on Thursday 28th September, from 9am until 10.30am. The venue is the Coffee Club Logan Super Centre (next to Ikea), Shop 18, 3525 Pacific Highway, Slacks Creek, QLD 4127. The event is free, but booking will be required. Children are also welcome.
