In a joint venture with Logan City Council, fresh produce suppliers from throughout Logan and Slacks Creek showcased some of the area’s finest food at this year’s Royal Queensland Show, the ‘Ekka’.
The event was organised with the intention of alerting residents to the innovative food businesses and top range of produce that was based or emanated from within the City.
Logan City Councillor, Luke Smith said fresh produce was abundantly available and was in such demand that it was now being enjoyed on dinner plates across the world.
Smith stated that there was still a large proportion of Logan City that is designated rural and the area is growing some of the country’s best produce, despite it being only half an hour from the Brisbane Central Business District (CBD).
Many food-based enterprises in the area also export innovative products to international destinations, according to the councillor.
Smith claimed that the move to showcase the local produce at the 2015 Ekka highlights the region’s diversity and the importance of agriculture as part of the city’s $19 billion economy.
Agriculturally based firms such as the Berry Patch, Logan Food Growers and Carcamos Gourmet Caramel Apples have made use of catalogue printing to illustrate the wide range of produce available.
Everything from fresh strawberries to sausages and cattle was included in the list of produce on offer from throughout the City of Logan.
