Entries wanted for calendar competition

Primary school students from Slacks Creek and throughout the City of Logan are being invited to submit their poster designs for Logan City Council's annual World Environment Day calendar competition.

World Environment Day is celebrated internationally on June 5 by over 143 countries. It was established by the United Nations in 1972, with the first event held in 1974 in Spokane, United States. In 1987, it was decided that a different host nation should be chosen each year, with Australia hosting the event in 2000.

The theme for this year's competition is ‘Threatened species of Logan’, with the aim of encouraging students to explore the importance of local species in biodiversity, and to inspire others to better protect threatened species. Logan City Council produces a number of printed Brochures on threatened wildlife in the area.

Winning entries will be featured in the City of Logan's 2022 World Environment Day calendar, as well as being on display at the awards presentation, which will be held in May as part of the Logan Eco Action Festival. There are a variety of prize categories, with prizes including gift cards and Bags. All students who enter will receive a prize.

The final calendar will be available free of charge from Logan City Council in late 2021. Printing services are often employed to produce materials like this.

Entries for the calendar competition close on April 21.
