Christmas comes early in Slacks Creek as new store opens

Christmas starts in July, and ends in December at Slacks Creek, Queensland. The town has the distinction of playing host to the largest Christmas Shack store in Queensland. The owners of the store, Corrine and Gary McEwan, opened a new store in nearby Ipswich at the start of October so that customers will not need to travel to fulfil their festive needs.

Whoever does the catalogue printing for the franchises really needs to be on the ball to keep up with the wide range of items on sale. Garlands, wreaths, nativity scenes of various kinds, novelty reindeer, Santa figures, and that seasonal favourite, Christmas Elvis, are all featured.

The McEwans own several Christmas Shack stores, and have been in the Christmas decoration business for ten years. Most new businesses would need to get some banner printing done to advertise their arrival, but the people of Ipswich could not wait for an invitation to enter the store, as Mr. McEwan explained:

"Initially we were keeping things a little quiet, but people were looking through the glass and knocking on the door while we were putting up shelves."

It could have been the presence of the giant Santa balloon outside the store that tipped the people off, but the McEwans were making sales before they had their cash registers installed. As is the custom in their other stores, Corrine and Gary plan to keep the new store open from July till the end of the year, pointing out that October and November tend to be good months.
