Budding home chefs boil over with enthusiasm for cooking classes

Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver’s Ministry of Food is proving popular with residents in Slacks Creek and throughout the Logan City Council area.

Bookings to attend the five-week cooking course were so strong that organisers The Good Foundation had to add a second round of classes to meet the demand.

The innovative programme which has evolved from Oliver’s ideas and beliefs in relation to cooking and ways to introduce a healthier lifestyle, has been embraced by all ages within the Logan community, according to a spokesman for the organisers.

She said the aim of the course is to empower and inspire those taking part to think more about the food they prepare and consume. Cooking, she added, was a life skill and courses such as this made it possible for people from all walks of life to learn more about the art, which is so visible every day in the media, televised cooking shows and Brochures.

Up to four classes are being held each day from Monday to Saturday for the duration of the latest Ministry of Food Mobile Kitchen courses, which end on March 16.

Organisers said the programme not only uncovered some budding chefs, but was also fun and engaging.

The community-based initiative, supported by Logan City Council, has been jointly delivered in Queensland by not-for-profit organisation The Good Foundation, together with Woolworths and Jamie Oliver.
