Slacks Creek residents are being invited to nominate an individual or community group for Logan City's annual Volunteer of the Year Awards.
Mayor Darren Power is keen to see nominations coincide with this year's National Volunteer Week for which the theme is ‘Changing Communities. Changing Lives’. He said the contribution made by volunteers to the community's most vulnerable is most important and their dedication and generosity should not go unnoticed.
His words were echoed by Cr Laurie Koranski who said recent challenges arising from the Coronavirus pandemic in which volunteers helped families with recycled computers, shelter and food.
Volunteers also ensure the future of many community-based services such as Kingston-based Mob Kinnectors which executes a programme that provides guidance, support and information for the area's families and youth.
Many services like those on offer at Mob Kinnectors have often been advertised via flyer printing throughout the local community.
In excess of 7000 people volunteer to help out in the community each year and Council has been acknowledging outstanding contributions by organisations and individuals since the Awards were first introduced in 1988.
Nominations for the 2020 Volunteer of the Year Awards to include the Frank Lenz Memorial Award and the Davida Steele Memoral Award, close on July 1. Submissions should be made online and all nominees must be an organisation based in the City or an individual resident.
