Milton to host workshop on writing academic essays
Saint Francis College in Milton is hosting a free academic writing workshop later in the month to help students master the technique of writing essays.
Many students who enter tertiary education have little idea of how to approach assessments and assignments and since a vast majority of tertiary institutions use academic essays to assess their students’ knowledge and understanding of content matter, this is an essential skill for students to master.
Academic essays require a style of writing that presents a thesis or set of ideas based on evidence or research. Students who understand how to structure an argument and present facts have a better chance of achieving higher results.
This workshop, presented by Dr Peter Kline, an Academic Dean and Lecturer, will teach students about deductive reasoning and how to approach their arguments analytically. Students will also learn techniques on how to structure their essays to create maximum impact and how to find references for their work.
This workshop is a valuable opportunity for new tertiary-level students to gain insight and understanding into academic essay writing and to ask questions about the topic. Mastering the art of academic essay writing early on is beneficial to students’ overall experience. Free workshops such as this, are often advertised by means of flyer printing which are distributed within the local community to notify them of upcoming events.
The Academic Writing Workshop is taking place on Thursday 12th March from 2pm-4pm at Saint Francis College in Milton.
