What's Happening in Milton, QLD…

Milton to host show for fans of the Swinging Sixties

Music lovers who were around in the 1960s, or who love the music of that era, might wish to turn up and watch DOWNTOWN! The Mod Musical in Milton this June.

The 1960s was an era that was known for its fashion, music and freedom. DOWNTOWN! The Mod Musical was written by Phillip George and David Lowenstein to celebrate this time.

The format uses the growing-up journey of five girls in London, citing advertisements, true confessions and letters to an agony aunt to frame a jukebox-type experience with songs by popular artists. This includes pop ballads and anthems by the likes of household names such as Lulu (To Sir with Love), Dusty Springfield (Son of a Preacher Man) and Petula Clark (Downtown).

The agony aunt, Gwen Holmes, writing for the fictional magazine, Shout!, believes that all problems can be solved with:
“A fetching new hair style and a new shade of lipstick.”

Coupled with psychedelic dances and 1960s fashion, ranging from miniskirts to hippy chic, the musical is touted as fun, extravagant and full of heartfelt reminders, in celebration of the decade known affectionately as the “Swinging Sixties”.

Colourful, celebratory poster printing is one way to capture the magic of a show and advertise within the local community.

DOWNTOWN! The Mod Musical will be taking place at the PIP Theare in Milton, from June 27 until 29. Tickets cost from $40.
