Firebringer was the 10th show from StarKid Productions and ran for a month in Chicago in 2016. It was originally funded by Kickstarter, raising $155,000 US dollars from 3,700 backers.
The plot of the show revolves around a group of cave people, led by Jemilla, the Peacemaker. The group survives by hiding from the predator Snarl and by foraging berries and nuts. Zazzalil makes an important discovery that changes the shape of their world, leading to human advancement.
When the musical first ran in 2016, it was praised for its strong female cast, where the women are in charge. A review in Theatre by Numbers states the show as having:
“Solid melodies, harmonies and clever rhyme schemes.”
One of the musical numbers, I Don't Really Wanna Do The Work Today, was even parodied in the musical The Book of Mormon.
