Work begins on new-look PCYC

Demolition of the old Police-Citizens Youth Club (PCYC), including the basketball court at Fortitude Valley to make way for a brand new club, began recently.

State Development Minister, Cameron Dick said undertaking the demolition now will go a long way to ensuring construction work on the new building can begin on time around mid-2020. He said the Fortitude Valley community was looking forward to a new revitalised PCYC and the demolition works being conducted by Silverstone Developments was providing valuable employment opportunities and was expected to take about four weeks to complete, adding:

“It’s anticipated the project will run into early next year, which is great news for the industry and the Queenslanders it employs.”

In addition to new facilities, the development has also been seen as a great opportunity for the PCYC to attract additional patronage from locals. Managing Director of Silverstone Developments Troy Daffy said that once completed, the new facility will be state-of-the-art. Flyer printing is often conducted to advise locals of what is available at popular local facilities such as the PCYC.

Daffy said the club's redevelopment was on track and represented a win for everyone. He added that development of the PCYC site's remaining land, which has approval for a commercial tower reaching 12-storeys high, will also help create jobs for hundreds of people in the future.
