Families from Bellevue should head along the river this weekend for a day out at the annual Avon Descent.
The white water race stretches 124 kilometres from Northam to Bayswater, taking place over two days.
The event is open to both power boats and paddlers, attracting novices and more serious competitors from around Australia and overseas, with prizes on offer to the top finishers. More than 25,000 people have taken part in the race since it was first run in 1973.
To celebrate as the boats move through the area, the City of Swan council has organised a special community event at Fish Market Reserve, next to the river.
Spectators will be able to cheer on the paddlers as they come through, with a live commentary ensuring that everyone will know who is in the lead. Visitors are encouraged to wear bright colours to show their support. Families might also like to think about banner printing to offer encouragement to the racers.
There will also be a plenty of other entertainment going on, including face painting, pony rides, and children’s performers Think Pink.
A range of food stalls, including pizza and ice cream, will satisfy even the fussiest taste buds, while families can also picnic on the riverbank.
The Power On event will take place on Sunday, August 3rd, from 11am to 3pm.
