Unique design seeks approval in Fortitude Valley

The transformation of Fortitude Valley is set to climb to new heights, as developer Cornerstone has submitted plans for a new commercial tower.

The site at 251-253 Wickham Terrace, opposite the famous McWhirters building, is currently home to Myers House, which was built in the 1800s. Despite the building’s long history, it is in major disrepair. The primary use of the tower, which has been named 251 Wickham, will be commercial office space, however, a café and some retail outlets have also been incorporated into the plan.

Aspects of the building’s unique design include a multi-height lobby with an intentional focus on greenery. The designers have integrated Brisbane City Council’s ‘Buildings that Breathe’ initiative into the plan by including numerous plants and mature trees. The most outstanding feature of the building will be the slanting façade.

Unique offices close to the city such as this can quickly attract the attention of businesses looking for an operational space. Carefully considered graphic design elements in building mock-ups can be a deciding factor when businesses are considering a new workplace.

Full geotechnical information has been requested from the council, as 251 Wickham will be built directly above the $3.2 billion Clem Jones Tunnel. The proposed cost of the development has not yet been made public, but, if approved, it will join Fortitude Valley train station in the transformation of the busy area.
