Steven Patrick Morrissey first entered the public sphere as frontman of The Smiths, from 1982 until 1987.
Morrissey, a Northern lad, was born to working class parents in Lancashire, UK. Morrissey formed The Smiths with fellow musician and songwriter Johnny Marr, and the first self-named album was critically acclaimed.
With a penchant for kitchen sink dramas, realism and witty lyrics, the band soon had a cult following. Differences with Marr led to the break-up of the band in 1987, but Morrissey successfully began a solo career, and is still releasing albums to this day. It is his solo work that will feature most prominently on the evening’s playlist.
Poster printing will be used to advertise the singing star in the community ahead of the event.
The music critic Steven Wells claimed that Morrissey was:
“the man who more or less invented indie.”
Many Britpop artists, such as Suede, Pulp, Oasis and Blur have claimed that Morrissey had a major influence on their work. With a slew of wards and nominations behind him, Morrissey is sure to deliver an evening to remember.
Morrisey is appearing at The Fortitude Music Hall on Friday 8th December at 7pm. Tickets cost $139.90.
