The 2012 ‘Perth City to Surf’ takes place in August and offers keen runners and walkers a chance to test their fitness and raise money for charity. Participants can fundraise for the event’s partner charity Activ, which works with people who have developmental disabilities, or an alternative charity of their choice.
Runners from Bellevue can choose from a full marathon, half marathon or a 12-kilometre run. There is also a 12-kilometre walk event, a four-kilometre walk, or run that is suitable for children and people with buggies, and a four-kilometre wheelchair event. A number of elite athletes, including a former Olympic gold medallist and a Paralympian, will be aiming to set their best times at the event.
The Perth City to Surf has been running for 37 years and last year, more than 40,000 people took part. Organisers hope to beat that number in 2012, where runners can register individually or as a team.
A special challenge for local business bosses offers the chance to win an extra $5000 for a charity of their choice by being the boss who raises the most money.
To increase chances of raising money, participants could consider flyer printing, which could be delivered to local residents and businesses asking for sponsorship with details of their chosen charity. Poster printing would be another good way to get the message across.
The City to Surf takes place on Sunday, August 26, with registration closing the Saturday before. For more information, visit the Perth City to Surf website.
