New mental health facility has opened in Broome

A mental health facility has recently opened up in Broome, Western Australia. The facility cost $9.4 million and will service people who need acute psychiatric treatment.

In the past, people had to fly to Perth for treatment at the Grayland hospital. Perth residents who live in suburbs like Bellevue will find that their hospital will be quieter in the months to come. This is because the new facility will take in local patients.

The facility will be able to house 14 patients at a time. This covers 80% of the people who need treatment in local areas. The remaining percentage may still need to go to Perth. However, the opening of the new facility means that many families will be able to cut travel costs.

Experts have stated that the biggest challenge facilities like these face is the lack of awareness surrounding mental illness. Many Australians are reluctant to get help when it comes to these issues. One way that mental health facilities are combating this problem is by handing out information about mental illness to the public. They do this by using printing services to make up information Brochures. These Brochures are handed out at schools, events and placed at doctors’ offices.

People who are suffering from a mental illness or know somebody who needs help can contact the number listed on the brochure. These types of brochure will educate people as well as give them information on how to get treatment.
