Filmmaker grants to bring aging into focus

Festival organisers in Fortitude Valley and across the state are being invited to host screenings of B.Old short films, being created as part of a Queensland government grant programme.

The films are being created with the help of $10,000 grants which were awarded to eight film-making teams following their submissions earlier this year. According to a media release, the 40 scripts entered had a particular goal which was:

“To demonstrate an alternative view of ageing and celebrate the achievements and contributions to our communities by older people.”

The entries incorporated many topics including documentaries about a champion body builder and a star of country music. Other winning scripts put the focus on various parts of the community such as the relationships between grandchildren and grandparents, older actors facing the frustration of being typecast and many more.

The aging scenario and what it means within society today is the basis of the competition and why it is supporting short film production on the subject. Winning entries were submitted by Jeremy Rigby, BlacMac Productions, Van Aswegen Trust, All Access, The Moving Picture Lab, Zerodivide Productions, Lovedays Cinema and Bent3Land Productions.

Details for events such as film festivals this are often advertised via flyer printing campaigns.

Film festivals throughout Queensland ranging from the Gold Coast to Cairns, will be showing the B.Old Short Film competition works as part of their local festival programme.
