Anzac Day to be marked in Bellevue

Bellevue residents have several chances to mark Anzac Day later this month, including a service at the local Returned and Services League headquarters.

The Bellevue RSL sub-branch will hold a number of services throughout the anniversary period, including the traditional dawn service.

Anzac Day, held on 25th April each year, gives Australians the chance to remember older generations who served in world wars, commemorate those who have lost their lives during conflicts, and recognise the work of veterans and those currently serving in the military.

Originally referring to the Australian and New Zealand troops who served in World War One, the day now also recognises veterans from all conflicts including the more recent peacekeeping duties and postings such as Afghanistan.

The day also provides an opportunity for families to remember their own loved ones who may have fallen in conflicts. Professional Print companies can help keep mementos of military ancestors in good condition by creating reproductions of old photographs or documents.

The dawn service will be held at Blackboy Hill, the site of a former military training camp. Later, a parade will march from the Scout Hall in Bellevue to the branch’s clubrooms in Purton Place, where a service will be followed by lunch and the chance to spend the afternoon with family and friends. A morning memorial service will also take place at the nearby Midland Railway Workshops.
