Construction begins soon for Wauwatosas Bublr Bikes stations

The latest step to provide Wauwatosa residents with new alternative transportation options will begin in August, during which construction on seven Bublr Bikes stations will begin.

After building Bublr Bikes stations throughout Wauwatosa, tourists, commuters, and recreational bike riders will be able to rent bicycles at one station and return them to another. The local system will be compatible with the one that is already operational in Milwaukee and will be its first suburb to have one.

Working with a brochure printing service to educate the public about the new bike sharing system will likely be part of Bublr Bikes agenda as the operational date nears.

According to Kevin Hardman, Wauwatosa resident and Bublr Bikes’ Executive Director, a regional system is envisioned. Riders using the Bublr Bikes system can buy a single ride at a station for $3 for a maximum of 30 minutes of use. Passes good for a month, as well as annual passes, can be obtained; all transactions will be via credit cards.

Installation of the bike stations will be accomplished in two phases. The first, which will occur this August, is to be funded by a grant from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. Phase two will, in the next few weeks, need to make its way through the Wauwatosa City Hall’s approval process on its way to construction in 2017.
