With state officials dealing with a backlog of more than 16,000 applicants who wish to take the road test, they have implemented the waiver as a means of safely making it easier to manage that number. The list will be cut by 10,000 applicants because of the waiver.
Kristina Boardman who is the DMV’s administrator said:
“Safe driving is a result of practice and instruction. When young people learning to drive have completed all necessary requirements and demonstrated to their instructors and to their parents or guardians that they are ready for a probationary driver license this program will allow them to move forward.”
According to Boardman, 98% of people pass the test on the first or second try. Under the new procedure, drivers from Greenfield who are under the age of 18, have finished their training, and have the green-light from a guardian or parent can be issued with a probationary license without taking the road test. Stationery printers can be used to Print important documents.
The new rules went into effect on Monday, May 11. The program also makes it so that people can complete many of the tasks online rather than having to go to a DMV service center. The DMV will continue to conduct road tests, but state officials feel that this pilot program will reduce the DMV’s workload in the future.
