Greenfield workshop to teach water conservation techniques

This August, the Greenfield Public Library will hold a free rain barrel workshop to teach attendees how to utilize rainwater to conserve water, save money, and promote environmentally friendly practices.

The Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) and the Fresh Coast Guardians are working in collaboration to bring this workshop to the public. MMSD oversees Milwaukee's and the rest of southwestern Wisconsin's stormwater and wastewater management, while the Fresh Coast Guardians is a community-based initiative that teaches residents to implement green infrastructure solutions, such as green roofs and rain barrels.

The workshop will teach attendees how to install and care for a rain barrel, which are vessels that catch the rainwater from a roof and allow it to be repurposed, perhaps for watering gardens. All attendees, if they live in Milwaukee County, will also receive a free rain barrel to use at their home. Representatives from the Fresh Coast Guardians and MMSD will explain the many benefits of using rain barrels for water conservation.

Educational workshops like this will often offer printed brochures and pamphlets to participants to facilitate the learning process. Brochure printing services can be found at many local print shops that partner with organizations.

The Greenfield rain barrel workshop is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, August 5, beginning at 6:00 pm. The Greenfield Public Library is located at 5310 West Layton Avenue.
