Greenfield to enjoy musical St. Paddys day

To help get residents in the Irish spirit this season, the Greenfield Public Library is hosting a performance by Derek Byrne and Paddygrass. The event promises a lively fusion of traditional Irish and American folk music.

Originally a singer and a musician backing up performances of the Irish step-dancing tour Riverdance, Derek Byrne is a native of Ireland who settled in the Milwaukee region. He has been a part of the Irish folk-music scene ever since and formed the band Paddygrass. The six-member group performs Irish, Bluegrass, and Gospel music and sings in four-part harmony. Singing, dancing, and more are a common occurrence during their shows.

The group will perform a collection of classic Irish tunes, using a variety of instruments to bring the traditional melodies to life. The two-hour program will include such standards as Irish Rover and Whiskey in the Jar. Green is encouraged but not required, and no requests will be taken. No drinking will be allowed on the library grounds. Afterwards, CDs and other Promotional Products from the group will be available for purchase.

Derek Byrne and Paddygrass will perform on March 14 starting at 7:00 pm at the Greenfield Public Library, located at 5310 W. Layton Ave. Admission is free to the public. Anyone interested in more info should contact the library directly.
