The new hospital is planned to open up in 2021. At 32,000 square feet, it will be a relatively small facility with emergency care services and it is expected to create up to 70 new jobs in the area. The space where the new hospital will sit at South 76th Street used to be a Barnes and Noble store. The hospital’s 2021 opening date depends on the book store leaving the building in July 2020. Brochure printing is often used as a way of letting shareholders know about developments as the project progresses.
A fully-licensed and CMS-accredited facility, Medicare and Medicaid will also be accepted when the hospital starts running.
According to Bernie Sherry who is Ascension Wisconsin’s Ministry Market Executive:
“This new health center provides an innovative way to integrate inpatient and outpatient services while keeping care close to home.”
The new facility will have space for eight inpatients. Other services offered include specialty and primary clinic care as well as outpatient diagnostics with CT, MRI, X-rays and mammography. Emerus Holdings and Ascension Wisconsin will own the hospital through a joint venture called Ascension Wisconsin Emerus JV. This joint venture is the largest micro-hospital operator in the country.
Barnes and Noble was forced to close its shop at the hospital’s new location as well as several others after failing to keep up with competition from online retail giant Amazon.
