Providing apple trees with proper care can keep them healthy and happy, and may also help to rejuvenate old ones, and a Hudson workshop will introduce these cultural practices to a new crop of growers.
Subject matter expert Sam Behrends will serve as the facilitator for the Apple Tree Care class on offer at the Al & Laurie Hein Visitor Center. It will cover a variety of topics that may be helpful primarily for the home fruit grower, although market gardeners might also find the information useful.
During the class, Sam will discuss the basics of getting started by choosing the right variety or cultivar, and there will be other planning considerations on the agenda as well. Planting and tips for caring for the young trees while they get established will be charred, and seasonal tasks such as pruning will be reviewed along with pest management.
More people are discovering the joys of growing their own food, and even a small yard may be able to accommodate a garden. Tips sheets, seeds saving Envelopes, seasonal pruning guides, and other materials for an activity can be prepared by Stationery printers.
This introduction to the basics of growing apples will be on offer on Monday, March 9 at 279 South Cove Road. The fee to register for the session is $10, and it will run from 5:30 pm until 7:30 pm.
