Huge increase to Green Bay polling stations for this years election

The city council in Green Bay has voted in favor of a number of changes that will be made to the elections being held in November and August.

The biggest change is the increase in the number of polling stations. In total 17 stations will be used for this year’s elections, whereas last spring’s elections only needed two. Print shops are often visited by campaigners who need to create campaign material.

Of those locations, 13 have been used before, and the extra four are Keller Elementary School, Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary, Danz Elementary School, and what used to be a Sears store located on Military Avenue. Discussions about whether Green Bay’s four high schools can be used as polling stations are ongoing.

Mayor Eric Genrich recognized the Ad Hoc Election Committee’s attempts to increase the number of polling stations when he said:

“Ideally we would still have 31 locations but I think these locations are going to meet the needs of our voters in August. And I think we all learned how hard it is to designate these locations so I just want to give a lot of credit to those involved in making it happen.”

The city council has yet to make a decision on whether the beach should be returned to Bay Beach. A previous vote on the issue was deadlocked at 2-2.
