Green Bay workshop planned for beginner beekeepers

The Green Bay Botanical Garden offers an assortment of classes and other learning opportunities, and one of these will introduce new and novice home apiarists to some of the tricks of the trade.

Ken Sikora, who has over 25 years of experience in working with bees, will be the facilitator for an activity that will lend these area pollinators a helping hand. It will be filled with information that may be helpful to beginners, and it will aid them in deciding if the hobby is right for them.

During the session, Sikora will discuss some of the basics of keeping a colony of bees. He will address issues such as costs, what sort of equipment is needed, how to care for the bees, and also sources for them in the local area. Options for mentoring and other support will be shared, and everyone will walk away with a better understanding of these tiny but important insects.

This in-person event is currently open for registration, with face coverings strongly recommended. Information Booklets and other materials for learning sessions can be ordered from an area brochure printing company.

The Green Bay Botanical Garden will be offering this introduction to the care and culture of honeybees for the home beekeeper on February 23. Its scheduled run time is from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
