Children and tweens with a flair for science experiments, and adults looking to learn, are marking their Calendars in anticipation of the Einstein Project Science Expo.
The event will mix learning, fun, and friendly competition in one packed day, and a big part of it is the Ameriprise Science Fair. Open to young people between first and eighth grade, entrants are expected to come up with a question, create a hypothesis and method of testing, and then follow the procedure of the experiment. They will then be judged based on the quality of the experiment.
All students will receive an award for participation and two free tickets to the expo. For entries in the sixth to eighth grade category, the young person that wins best in show will also be awarded a Michigan Tech Summer Youth Program scholarship.
The Expo will also have a number of science demonstrations on the main stage. The event will feature two performances by scientific whiz Professor Gizmo, as well as an interactive demo by the Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary and a lively performance by Mr. Billy Science Music. The Science Expo will also be filled with exhibition booths from science and tech companies in the Green Bay area. Last year, more than 60 exhibitors took part, and more are expected this year.
The Expo will take place this Saturday, January 9, from 9:00am to 4:00pm at Shopko Hall. Tickets cost $5 for adults and $2 for children aged 3 to 18. The expo will be moved from Saturday to Sunday in event of a football playoff game in Green Bay. Anyone interested should check the website for more information.
