Fresh faces arrive at UW-Green Bay

The school year has begun and high school graduates are starting their first year in college. More than 700 students moved into the dorms at the University of Wisconsin’s Green Bay campus on September 1.

Close to 150 volunteers were there to help the students move in and assist them with their heavy Bags. As soon as a car arrived outside the dorms, the volunteers would swoop down and help to carry everything upstairs while the drivers found proper parking.

For a few days after moving in, the freshmen will be given a chance to engage in activities that will get them used to college life and figure out where everything is. University induction events tend to feature poster printing at different stalls.

Gail Sims-Aubert, the Director of Student Life, stated that the checking in process went smoothly, saying:

“They will do a service project that culminates in a tailgate at Lambeau Field. There’s a variety show, there’s freshman convocations. So you name it. Lots of fun, social and also educational activities.”

Parents and students alike were happy to make this important first step in college life. Hannah Reiss from Menominee is one of those students, and spoke to Fox11online.com. She just got settled in to her new dorm and will be studying nursing. She chose UW- Green Bay because it is close to home, so she can see her old friends back home often and family can visit her as well.
