Virginia Beach support group to hold first meeting

Those from Virginia Beach and the surrounding area who provide long-term care for someone in a nonprofessional capacity are invited to take part in a group that has been organized especially for them.

A support group has been started by three nurses who work in the field themselves. Having understanding of the stresses that long-term health care providers can face, and they decided that they wanted to help.

One of the three, Marilyn Fall, told the Virginian Pilot that the nurses have a lot of experience in geriatric care in private homes and institutions, as well as case management, and they want to share what they have learned. Brochures advertising groups such as this can be made available to the public at trade shows, expos, and other community events.

The trio will be able to provide advice and information about all facets of long-term care. They also hope to be able to offer a supportive and understanding environment for those who take part, and give them an opportunity to meet with others in a situation similar to their own.

The first meeting will be hosted by Elder Care at Home, and it has scheduled the first meeting for March 2 at 10:00 am. Anyone who would like to attend, or who just wants to get more information, is invited to call 757-464-4800.
