Virginia Beach offers dirt on landscape design

Growing a garden is a labor of love, and Virginia Beach has organized a workshop that may help point the way to landscaping success.

The city’s Parks and Recreation Department will be running its “Talking Dirt-Tips for the Casual Gardener" class in mid-February, filled with tips and tricks used by home horticulturalists. It will be on offer in time for those preparing for the upcoming planting season, and no registration fee is being charged.

The activity will be led by Master Gardener Roy Heath. Running for one hour, it will introduce the basics of landscape design and also how to take a project from a dream to reality. A variety of tools and hardscape items will be discussed, and various methods for installing and maintaining a garden will be on the agenda. Everyone will learn how to avoid common pitfalls, and anyone with questions will be able to ask them.

Planting a tree or garden is an investment in the future, and attending a horticultural workshop allows those who take part to hit the ground running. Stationery printers can supply Copies of handouts and learning materials, and they may also provide Logo Design and other services that can be useful to a not-for-profit organization.

This chance to get the “dirt” on casual gardening is scheduled for Tuesday, February 17 at the Princess Anne Recreation Center. It will begin at 6:45 pm.
