Virginia Beach spellers to test their skills

Virginia Beach homeschoolers who wish to put their spelling skills to the test will soon have an opportunity to do so during the Hampton Roads Homeschool Spelling Bee.

The event will be a Scripps Spelling Bee, and it will be open to any child who is in the Virginia Pilot Delivery Area and who is in any grade from 1 to 8. The boy or girl who wins the 8th grade bee will move on to the next level, where they will be up against other homeschoolers in the regional competition, which has been organized by the Virginian Pilot.

The organizers of the Scripps Spelling Bee note that the goal of the competition is to not only award good students, but to help them build good study habits, form lasting friendships, and have fun. This event is being sponsored by Young Musicians of Virginia, and the fist 25 who register to participate will each be given a free season pass to the Scripps Word Club, which has a value of $30. Certificates of participation and awards for the winner of a competition like this can be crafted by a local printer’s graphic design department.

The Bee is scheduled to start on January 9, 2018 and it will be held at 865 Woodstock Road. More details can be found on the competition’s website.
