Virginia Beach SPCA receives funding

The SPCA in Virginia Beach has been given a grant to help it ensure that as many of the pets as possible that it places for adoption will be microchipped.

The $7,000 was awarded to the organization by the Bissell Pet Foundation. Jenny Teed, who is the Virginia Beach SPCA’s director of shelter operations, noted that the group is very pleased to have been selected to receive this sponsorship, as microchip technology plays an important role in helping lost pets be reunited with their families. She further went on to say that it could make the whole process much easier. It offers microchipping services at the veterinary clinic that it operates, and also provides them for the animals it places for adoption.

The funding comes from the Bissell Pet Foundation, which is a not for profit organization that was set up by Cathy Bissell. Ms. Bissell is the CEO of the Bissell vacuum company. According to the foundation, she wanted to help solve the problem of homeless and unwanted pets, and help to make sure they could all find loving homes. Brochures can be given to each family that adopts a new pet form the shelter that explains how a microchip can be very important should it ever become lost.
