Grappling Industries Virginia Beach, a martial arts organization, is holding a round robin in about a month’s time.
It will be held at the Virginia Beach Field House at 2020 Landstown Centre Way. A round robin tournament consists of a pool of competitors partaking in four or more matches per five-person division. This allows for diverse matches and multiple opportunities to gain experience. Competitors will gain points during each match.
Competitors must pre-register to participate, and need to do so by December 15. Early registration is $80 and ends on December 5, which is the only way to guarantee being able to participate in two divisions. Last minute registration is $105 until December 15.
The main divisions are divided into kids and adults with or without a gi, which is the garment traditionally worn by martial arts competitors. It is $25 for the teen/adult mixed absolute division with or without a gi, while admission to watch is $15. A gi will often carry the Logo Design of the training facility where it was given to a student.
A portion of the proceeds will go toward We Defy Foundation, which funds therapeutic jujitsu training for combat veterans with disabilities.
The list of participants will update during the registration dates and is available on the Grappling Industries website. Participants are encouraged to double check their information before the event.
The tournament will be on December 19. The doors open at 7:30 am and the tournament starts at 9:00 am.
