A Virginia Beach resident has found a way to combine an item from his ‘bucket list’ with an opportunity to help those in need in his own community.
Dustin Richardson has embarked on a cross country journey that will take him form Virginia Beach to San Francisco. Along the way, he is hoping to be able to do some fundraising to help the homeless. He expects his trip will take about two months to complete.
Richardson, who was working as a mechanic at the time, used to play guitar on the boardwalk. While he was doing so, he got to know some of the homeless people in the area, and learned about who they were as people, and came to feel that they were often misunderstood. He and his mother joined the not-for-profit Blankets for the Homeless so they could help, and gave out food to those in need. This is the cause for which he is cycling.
He plans to bike about 100 miles each day, depending on the weather. He will camp when he can, and says he is looking forward to the opportunity to enjoy the landscapes he navigates. A flyer printing firm can help him to help others by producing items he can hand out to people he meets, letting them know more about who he is and why he is undertaking his journey.
Anyone who would like to know more about the project, or make a donation, is invited to visit Richardson’s Facebook page.
