Virginia Beach competition to celebrate artistry in sand

Though the warm days of summer may have come and gone, the excitement in Virginia Beach will still be going strong early this fall when it welcomes the International Sand Sculpting Competition to its dunes.

The event, which its organizers claim is bigger and better than ever before, is open to people of all ages. It has been extended to 10 days in length, and expanded viewing areas and hours are a part of the enhancements. Sculptors will be coming in to the city from all over the world to participate, and the prize purse is significant. Amateur and school categories will also be a part of the competition.

The artistry will take place in a huge tent set up specially for the occasion. There will be 22 pieces of art being created, and there will be extra lighting so that the work can go on into the evening hours. It will take place rain or shine, and there will also be live entertainment and a chance to meet the sculptors in person.
