Virginia Beach cleans water through lights

The nationally renowned Water Lantern Festival is coming back to Virginia Beach.

Although light and lantern festivals are common across the nation, USA Today voted the best water lantern festival to be in Virginia Beach. Guests will decorate a Chinese lantern and set it afloat on the water as a symbol of peace and love. Seeing hundreds or even thousands of lanterns floating together is a sight that keeps people coming back annually.

Adult admission includes access to the festival and food trucks, an LED candle, a kit to make a lantern, a marker, and a drawstring bag with the festival's Logo Design. Some of the money raised will aid in cleanup efforts for the water, including the lanterns. The rest of the proceeds will support Water.org, a worldwide nonprofit that provides sanitation efforts and clean water to those who need it.

Tickets are $35.99 until July 20. From then until July 31, it is $45.99. They are $55.99 on the day of the event. Youth tickets for ages 8-14 are $15.99. Kids under 8 years get in free but their admission does not include lantern kit.

The festival will be at Mount Trashmore Park on August 1. The address is 310 Edwin Drive. Once the venue opens at 7pm, guests can visit food trucks and enjoy music. At 7:30pm, they can design a lantern to launch. Guests will launch their lanterns from 8:30pm to 9:30pm.
