The new trolleys are blue in color and are almost 35 feet in length. Poster printing in Virginia Beach could be employed to promote the renewed usage of them in the area. Tom Holden, a spokesperson for Hampton Roads Transit, has said:
“Quality workmanship. These have a distinct Oceanfront feel."
Mike Glaeser, who works as the manager for the training section of Hampton Roads Transit, has commented on how quiet the transportation is when it is in motion.
An event has already been held to mark the official opening of the trolley system. A ribbon was severed at 10:00 a.m. early in June.
Red trolleys were once used in the city. However, in 2008 the decision was made to replace the old fleet with hybrid vehicles. This development was not economically successful because tourists did not seem to appreciate the diesel-and-electric buses. A local official called John Uhrin has suggested that vintage rides are more enjoyable than modern transportation for visitors to the district.
The Tourism Investment Fund has contributed to making the project a reality, while a state grant has also played a role. Hampton Roads Transit has got a maintenance and management function, while an enterprise from Wisconsin has sold the trolleys to the city.
