Serve the City event set to boost volunteer numbers

Serve the City is a global movement to match nonprofit organizations with locals interested in volunteering their time.

Based on the premise that a lot more people would like to volunteer than actually do, Serve the City offers these people an easy entrance into volunteerism. Kevin Kittrell participated in Serve the City several years ago in Brussels and is responsible for bringing the event to Virginia Beach. Several Hampton Road cities have already sponsored similar events, but this will be Virginia Beach’s first.

Nonprofits use printing services for a variety of reasons. Firstly, they must promote their services so that those who can be helped by them know that those services are available. However, without funding, no services can be provided so charities need to promote their fundraising events and solicit donations as well. Finally, volunteers are needed to defray the cost of providing the services. Brochures, Flyers and Banners are among the ways nonprofits fulfill these requirements.

ForKids is one of the organizations that will be participating in the upcoming Serve the City Virginia Beach, which will take place July 7 to 9. Volunteers can sign up for however many days they wish. Although ForKids does have a paid staff, it nevertheless relies on volunteers to enable it to run smoothly and provide its services to Virginia Beach residents.
