Magical festival awaits in Virginia Beach

An event is scheduled in Virginia Beach that promises to be as beautiful as it is unusual—a Water Lantern Festival.

The Water Lantern Festival is a family-friendly event that everyone can share. It brings together neighbors, friends, and family to enjoy a peaceful evening filled with hope, happiness, fun, and memories, symbolized by the lanterns that float on the water.

Included with each adult ticket is a wristband that gives the wearer access to the festival, which includes food trucks, a kit to make a floating lantern, an LED candle to light the lantern, a marker, and a commemorative bag. The ticket also covers the cost of retrieving the lanterns from the lake and picking up any trash that might be left from the event.

The tradition of the water lamp began in India, and then spread to East and Southeast Asia, and later to the west. They are often used as part of traditional celebrations, especially when the festival coincides with the full moon. Water lanterns in Asia are often used as a form of worship, to avert disaster, or to encourage happiness. Some also believe that the lanterns are guides for the souls who are in the water.

The Water Lantern Festival is set for August 7, from 5:30 pm to 9:30 pm, at Trashmore Park. Poster printing could be used to create attractive advertising for an event like this.
