Multiple organizations in Virginia Beach have received grants for economic development.
The Development Authority of Virginia Beach awards grants through the Investment Program for Economic Development. Funds and benefits depend on how much the organization promises to invest into the city. Point One USA and World Distribution Services are the latest to receive the grants
Economic development interim director Taylor Adams expressed excitement in having companies add locations to Virginia Beach, noting that it benefits the local economy and creates employment for multiple residents. Business card printing services can help the new employees advertise the company, creating possible additional growth opportunities.
Point One USA is a law enforcement and military training center that opened in 2013 in Virginia Beach. It has two locations in the area and one in San Diego. A small business owned by a disabled veteran, it received $45,000 to relocate the main headquarters to Crusader Circle and add 15 jobs.
World Distribution Services is a distribution and warehousing company with Cleveland headquarters and various warehouses in 10 cities. WDS hopes to double its amount of warehouse space in Virginia Beach, add 35 jobs, and spent over $6m in updating the warehouses. It will get $35,000 in grant money to do so. According to Duncan Wright, President of WDS, the company have additional warehouse operations in 2020. They wanted to have a top of the line location next to Port of Virginia to improve customer service and employee work environment.
