Local students to compete in National Science Olympiad

Longfellow Middle School, a middle school in Falls Church, Virginia, near McLean, has won the Virginia Science Olympiad Tournament for the sixth time for Division B and is set to compete at the national level in May.

The Science Olympiad is a competition in which students from elementary school to high school compete in team events that help them learn about and hone their skills in various fields of science and technology. This competition gives students the opportunity to learn valuable team-building skills that they would need to excel in a scientific career, and allows them to travel and discover where their passion might be leading them.

Longfellow Middle School received first place in several events during the Virginia Science Olympiad Tournament, and also were in the top 10 out of the 25 events at the competition. Students who will be going to the National Science Olympiad include Jessica Feng, Neil Shah, Kari Naga, and Caroline Sun. Along with Longfellow Middle School, Fairfax High School will also be competing at the National Science Olympiad at the Division C level.
