McLean schools head to step down next year

The administrative head of McLean’s Country Day School, Diane Dunne, has announced that the 2021-2022 school year will be her last.

Dunne has decided to retire from the private school, which emphasizes early childhood education, as of the 2021-2022 school year’s end. She has been head of the school for the last decade and been employed by it for a total of 35 years.

Business Cards are often more than a statement of an individual’s current position, but may highlight past positions and awards as well.

Starting in 1987 as a teaching assistant, Dunne held a variety of other positions at Country Day, as well as elsewhere, before returning here to stay in 2007. In 2012, she accepted the head position.

The McLean Country Day Board of Directors expressed their gratitude to Dunne for her many contributions to the success of the school, including keeping the school open during the pandemic, keeping programs current and play-based, maintaining the schools building and grounds so well, and hiring and retaining experienced staff.

A search committee for Dunne’s successor has been formed and has already met to formulate a plan for attracting high-quality candidates. According to the board, the school community will be kept informed concerning the search and it will accept input at several points in the process.

A private kindergarten and preschool, Country Day School focuses on learning outdoors and through play. The campus includes a butterfly garden, nature room, and nature trail.
