The 2020 Bloomberg Richest U.S. Places list is out, and McLean and two other Virginia cities were included in the top 50.
The three Virginia communities that made the list are Great Falls, McLean, and Wolf Trap. Each of these municipalities were on the 2019 list and each slipped down a little from last year’s spot, despite each also seeing an increase in average household income.
Average income per household is a major factor for developers, as well as college graduates, in deciding what city will appear on their Letterheads and Business Cards.
The Virginia community highest on the Bloomberg list was Great Falls, which was ranked 20th, down four places from its 16th position last year. Great Falls average income went up from $309,599 to $311,911 despite its drop in the rankings.
For 2020, McLean moved from its 25th place last year to the 30th spot this year, although its average income rose from $283,992 to $293,323. Finally, Wolf Trap dropped to 47 from its 2019 position at 42. It too saw an increase in income; this time from $261,610 to $265,175.
Bloomberg first put together a list of cities with the greatest average income in 2017 and has made the list an annual occurrence since. In formulating its list, Bloomberg assessed almost 6,300 U.S. locations each with a minimum of 2,000 households.
