The items that they received included cotton from Mississippi, Brochures and magazines from West Virginia, and Mardi Gras beads and king cake from New Orleans. Along with these items, they received detailed letters that helped the students learn about the state. One couple from Maine even went so far as to visit The Langley School during their vacation to tell the students about their state.
Shari Bozorgzad, a third-grade teacher at The Langley School, said this about the project:
“I can honestly say that I am overwhelmed by the generosity and spirit of the people in this great nation. As we continue to study the 50 states… our third-graders will have a more in-depth understanding of our country thanks to the tremendous response of its citizens.”
Once the school year ends, students who are in first grade, second grade, or third grade will be able to join a summer program that will continue to teach them about the states.
