Justin Ward, a BASIS Independent McLean (BIM) student, recently took first as a single competitor vs teams in the upcoming Junior Varsity 2019 Northern Virginia History and is moving on to the national competition.
It won’t be Ward’s first trip to the nation’s capital; last year as a 9th grader the young man took second place in the small high school division of the 2018 National History Bowl. He was competing solo against teams then as well.
In 2018, Ward also competed against 140 other students in the National History Bee’s junior varsity division, which is an event for individuals, and was a quarter-finalist.
BMI head of school Tiffany Conroy said:
“We’re so proud of Justin’s continued hard work and focus on the History Bees. His passion and dedication for history is exceptional and we're thrilled to have him represent BASIS Independent McLean."
Banner printing is commonly sought out by schools to celebrate a victory in an academic competition or a great effort.
David Madden founded the National History Bee and Bowl (NHBB) in 2010 and currently serves as its executive director. In less than 10 years the NHBB has extended into over 20 countries as well as middle and elementary school divisions.
Held in Washington, D.C. as well as Arlington, Virginia, the 2019 Varsity and Junior Varsity NHBB Championships runs April 26 – April 28.
