City of Alexandria invites everyone to birthday celebration

The City of Alexandria is combining its 269th birthday with the 241st birthday of the United States for a one-night event.

The celebration of the forming of the United States, as well as the birth of the city that was the hometown of President George Washington, will include fireworks and much more.

Everyone is invited to Oronoco Bay park to enjoy the fireworks show over the Potomac River. The evening includes live music performed by the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra. Part of their performance during the evening will include a cannon salute along with their rendition of the 1812 Overture.

Guests can bring their own blankets, chairs, and food. Organizers ask that everyone leave their tents, umbrellas, and grills at home for safety reasons and to avoid obstructing the view of others.

There will also be vendors on site offering food, beverages, and various mementos and promotional products. A special patriotic birthday cake will also be available to attendees.

There is no admission fee for the event and all are welcome. The festivities last from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm this Saturday, July 7. The fireworks finale takes place at 9:30 pm. Oronoco Bay Park is a five-acre recreational area located at 100 Madison Street in Alexandria. The annual fireworks event is popular with locals and visitors, so guests should arrive early for the best seating.
