Missouri City to host concert as part of Juneteenth celebration
The Missouri City Juneteenth Celebration Foundation (MCJCF) has announced a free park concert as part of a five-day celebration of Juneteenth.
The event is only part of the larger Juneteenth series of activities. MCJCF has also organized a kick-off dance, a community service awards gala, a golf tournament, and a parade entitled “One Mile of Smiles.” The 2025 Annual Concert in the Park will feature food trucks and vendors offering varied crafts and items for sale.
According to its website, MCJCF seeks to promote African-American culture through area events and activities that reflect credit upon its community. It also implements programs to identify and showcase talented, deserving young people. The Juneteenth Celebration began in the fall of 2002, when Missouri City council member Don Smith organized the residents and business leaders of Fort Bend County to recognize the historical significance of Juneteenth.
June 19, 1865, which has become known as Juneteenth, is the day when the last enslaved persons in Texas learned of the Emancipation Proclamation. It marked the final end of slavery in America and is commonly celebrated by African-Americans all across the United States.
The event will be held on Friday, June 20th, from 6:00 to 11:30 PM at Hunters Glen Park in Missouri City. The address of the park is 1340 Independence Boulevard. Planners of events such as this one may wish to use banner printing or other services from print shops to create publicity for their events.
