The Senior Activity Center provides the city’s elderly population with free services. Seniors who relied on this center will be advised to use the facilities at the Humble Civic Center which is located nearby. According to officials, the bus service for seniors will continue as usual.
The Humble City Council voted unanimously in favor of demolishing the Senior Activity Center at a council meeting held last week. The meeting was supposed to have been held on August 27, but it was postponed because of Hurricane Laura.
According to Jason Stuebe, Humble City Manager, the decision was only made recently and was not previously part of the city’s plans. The building was constructed in 1994, since it would need numerous costly repairs, the council decided that it would be wiser to spend $30,000 on tearing it down.
Stuebe commented to say:
“We may have to invest a little in repurposing some portions of the Civic Center to do that, but if we can provide a better service at a lower cost, lower overhead, because we are utilizing a facility we already have, I think that’s certainly something we need to look at.”
Stuebe also mentioned that the city may look into building another activity center at a later date. Such projects are often showcased in Brochures and described in releases bearing the city’s official Letterheads.
